7 Benefits of Coconut Oil to Your Body

I remember when growing up, my mum used to apply coconut oil commonly known as “Nazi” to my hair and body. Back then my hair was long and body very smooth. However, I did not like the smell and always wanted to use the refined petroleum oils. Best Organic Coconut Oils

Now that I know better, am back to using the coconut oil. Note that, the best kind to use is the organic raw, virgin coconut oil. Let me indulge you with the 7 benefits that you can get from coconut oil when used on your skin.

  1. Body Oil

Coconut oil works wonders for a dry damaged skin.  It can be used as a moisturizer and helps to smoothen your skin. It also prevents wrinkles and sagging skin, moisturizing the whole body.

  • Shaving Balm

Coconut oil is a great shaving cream due to its lubricating nature. While it’s hard to find the right shaving cream that won’t leave your skin dry and itchy, coconut oil lubricates the skin and doesn’t have chemicals.   • Lip Balm

As mentioned above, coconut oil is a lubricant. If it can work for dry damaged skin, it will moisturize chapped lips. Apply all throughout the day to your lips.

  • Makeup and Lipstick Remover/ Cheekbone Highlighter

You can easily use coconut oil as a makeup and lipstick remover. Just apply coconut oil to a cotton ball and rub against the makeup or lipstick. Also it can be used as a cheek bone highlighter for a glow.

Did you know that coconut oil can help clear up germs in your mouth? It has antibacterial properties. Gargle a table spoon of coconut oil in your mouth for about 10-20 minutes. This will leave your mouth fresh, teeth white and germ free. You can also use lemon juice to brush your teeth for fresh breathe then later use your regular toothpaste.

Coconut oil is used as hair food, fights frizzy hair and treats dandruff and dry scalp. When used as hair food, always apply the coconut oil on the hair roots to the ends and massage on your head, then comb your hair and style as you like. To fight Frizzy hair, apply coconut oil on the ends of your hair. It will tame the loose strands. To treat dandruff and dry scalp, apply coconut oil in to your roots and scalp then massage, wrap head towel for 15 minutes then shampoo.

  • Body Scrub and Face Mask

You can create homemade body scrub and face mask using coconut oil and other ingredients easily found in your kitchen.

Heat ½ glass of coconut oil and a glass of brown sugar at low heat. Let it cool then apply on your face and neck. It acts as a body scrub.

To make a face mask, mix 1 table spoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply to you face and let it stay for 20 -30 minutes then wash it out with lukewarm water or towel.

Remember to always store the coconut oil at room temperature and use the organic coconut oil that is raw, virgin coconut.
